Mark Gertler

Mark Gertler (1891, 1939) was a British painter known for his bold, expressive works that blended Post-Impressionist and modernist influences. Born into a poor Jewish immigrant family in London's East End, he rose to prominence through his vivid portraits, still lifes, and figurative compositions. His most celebrated work, 'Merry-Go-Round' (1916), is a powerful anti-war statement that remains one of the iconic images of the First World War era.
