Marius Bercea

Marius Bercea is a Romanian painter born in 1979 in Cluj-Napoca, whose work blends figuration with dreamlike, surreal atmospheres that reflect on memory, post-communist identity, and the psychological residue of his Eastern European upbringing. His canvases often depict ambiguous social scenes populated by figures in landscapes that oscillate between nostalgia and unease, rendered with a lush, painterly technique that draws on both art historical traditions and contemporary sensibility. Bercea is part of the celebrated Cluj School, a generation of Romanian painters who gained significant international recognition in the 2000s and 2010s.
