Isaac Oliver was a renowned English miniaturist of French Huguenot origin, celebrated for his exquisitely detailed portrait miniatures of Elizabethan and Jacobean courtiers and nobility. A pupil of Nicholas Hilliard, Oliver developed a more continental, three-dimensional style that distinguished his work from his master's flatter, medieval-influenced approach. His clientele included royalty and aristocracy, and he served as limner to Anne of Denmark, wife of James I.
