Henry Joseph Darger Jr. was an American outsider artist and writer who spent most of his life working as a janitor and hospital worker in Chicago. He created an enormous body of work in complete secrecy, including a 15,000-page illustrated novel featuring his iconic Vivian Girls characters. His work was only discovered by his landlord after his death in 1973, making him one of the most celebrated figures in outsider and self-taught art.
