Giovanni Battista Moroni (c. 1520, 1578) was a Northern Italian Renaissance painter celebrated for his remarkably naturalistic and psychologically penetrating portraiture. A student of Alessandro Moretto in Brescia, he spent most of his career in Bergamo, producing portraits of local nobility, clergy, and tradespeople with an unprecedented directness and intimacy. His works, including the iconic 'The Tailor' (c. 1570), are held in major museums worldwide and continue to command significant attention at international auction houses.
