Francesco Guardi (1712, 1793) was a Venetian painter celebrated for his atmospheric vedute (view paintings) of Venice, capturing the city's lagoons, canals, and festivities with remarkable looseness and luminosity. A student of his brother Giovanni Antonio Guardi and influenced by Canaletto, he developed a highly personal style characterized by flickering brushwork and poetic light. His works are among the most sought-after at major auction houses, with paintings regularly achieving multi-million dollar results at Christie's, Sotheby's, and Bonhams.
