Johann Christian Michel Ezdorf (1801, 1851) was a German landscape painter born in Pösneck, Saxe-Meiningen, who studied in Munich and developed a remarkable talent for depicting gloomy, atmospheric forests inspired by Dutch masters Ruisdael and Van Everdingen. He traveled extensively to Norway, the North Cape, Sweden, Iceland, and England, drawing inspiration from dramatic northern landscapes. One of his finest works, a Forge by the side of a Waterfall, is held in the Modern Gallery in Munich, where he lived and died in 1851.
