Simon Jacobsz. de Vlieger was a prominent Dutch Golden Age painter, draughtsman, and etcher born in Rotterdam around 1601, known primarily for his atmospheric marine paintings and seascapes. He worked in Delft and Amsterdam, becoming one of the most influential marine artists of the 17th century, mentoring notable pupils including Willem van de Velde the Younger. Works attributed to him reflect his mastery of rendering light, sky, and water with subtle tonal gradations characteristic of the Dutch maritime tradition.
