Alexandre Marie Colin

Alexandre Marie Colin (1798, 1875) was a French Romantic painter celebrated for his literary and historical genre scenes, portraits, and orientalist compositions. A student of Anne-Louis Girodet and later associated with the circle of Eugène Delacroix, he gained recognition at the Paris Salon throughout the mid-19th century. His works frequently drew inspiration from literature, including scenes from Byron, Walter Scott, and Shakespeare, rendered with sensitivity and refined draughtsmanship.
