Pham Hau (1903–1995) was a Vietnamese painter trained at the École des Beaux-Arts de l'Indochine in Hanoi, where he studied under the French painter Victor Tardieu. He became one of the most celebrated masters of traditional Vietnamese lacquer painting, elevating the medium to fine art status by blending indigenous techniques with influences from his French academic training. His works, often depicting landscapes, village life, and Buddhist themes, are prized for their luminous depth and meticulous layering of lacquer and eggshell.
