Johann Wilhelm Baur was a German draughtsman, miniaturist, and engraver born in Strasbourg, celebrated for his intricate illustrations and small-scale works that blended Mannerist elegance with early Baroque dynamism. He spent much of his career in Vienna at the imperial court, producing highly detailed gouache miniatures, mythological scenes, and illustrations for published works including Ovid's Metamorphoses. His refined technique and imaginative compositions made him one of the most sought-after court artists of the early seventeenth century.
