Ilya Chashnik (1902–1929) was a pioneering Russian Suprematist artist and designer who studied under Kazimir Malevich at the Vitebsk Art School, later working at the State Porcelain Factory in Petrograd. He became one of the most gifted disciples of Suprematism, applying its geometric abstraction to both fine art and applied arts including ceramics and architectural design. Despite his tragically short life, his dynamic compositions of bold geometric forms remain highly significant works of the Russian avant-garde.
