Pre-Columbian Mexican

Works

The Colima Seated Figure of a Shaman represents the artistic traditions of the Colima culture of western Mexico, flourishing approximately 300 BCE to 900 CE. These ceramic figures, depicting shamans in meditative or ritualistic poses, were created as funerary objects placed in shaft tombs to accompany the deceased into the afterlife. Characterized by smooth, burnished red-orange earthenware and naturalistic human forms, these works reflect the spiritual and cosmological beliefs of pre-Columbian Colima society.
