Alexander Helwig Wyant (1836–1892) was an American landscape painter associated with the Tonalist movement, renowned for his lyrical, atmospheric depictions of the American countryside. Influenced by George Inness and the Hudson River School, he later developed a more intimate, poetic style characterized by soft light and muted tones. Despite suffering a paralytic stroke in 1873 that left his right hand disabled, he continued to paint with his left hand, producing some of his most celebrated works.
