Vik Muniz
Portrait of Alice Liddell, after Lewis Carroll from Rebus
Vik Muniz recreates the iconic 1858 Lewis Carroll photograph of Alice Liddell — the young girl who inspired *Alice's Adventures in Wonderland* — using his signature Rebus technique, in which images are constructed from an accumulation of small pictures and symbols that spell out a hidden narrative. The resulting dye destruction print plays with layers of meaning and visual complexity, inviting viewers to look closer and decode the image within the image. Muniz's work cleverly blurs the line between photography and illusion, questioning how we construct and perceive identity through imagery.
