Afrostack

A monumental assemblage of concrete, porcelain, glass, and book, *Afrostack* by Theaster Gates layers industrial and archival materials to evoke the weight of Black cultural history and collective memory. Gates transforms discarded and salvaged objects into a dense, totemic structure that speaks to resilience, preservation, and the accumulation of knowledge over time. The work bridges the utilitarian and the sacred, inviting viewers to consider the overlooked repositories of African American experience embedded in everyday materials.
