Wang Duo was a prominent Chinese calligrapher and painter of the late Ming and early Qing dynasties, renowned for his bold, expressive cursive and running script that challenged the orthodox Wang Xizhi tradition. Serving as a high official under both the Ming and Qing courts, he was a controversial figure known as a 'twice-serving minister' for his defection to the Qing dynasty in 1644. His dynamic, large-scale calligraphic works are highly prized at auction, frequently achieving record prices at major houses including Christie's, Sotheby's, and Poly Auction.
