Tom of Finland, born Touko Laaksonen, was a Finnish artist renowned for his highly stylized, homoerotic drawings depicting idealized masculine figures in leather, denim, and uniforms. His work, characterized by exaggerated physiques, explicit sexuality, and a playful defiance of social norms, became deeply influential in shaping gay male identity and visual culture from the mid-20th century onward. Widely regarded as one of the most significant LGBTQ+ artists of the 20th century, his imagery transcended underground subculture to achieve recognition in fine art, fashion, and popular culture.
