Geraldo de Barros was a pioneering Brazilian painter, photographer, and designer widely regarded as one of the most influential Brazilian artists of the 20th century. He co-founded Grupo Ruptura and led the concrete art movement in Brazil, revolutionizing experimental abstract photography with his celebrated Fotoformas series (1946–1952). His work used multiple exposures and rotated images to capture the phenomenological experience of Brazil's rapid urbanization.
