Ceri Richards (1903–1971) was a Welsh painter and printmaker celebrated for his lyrical, emotionally charged canvases that fused Surrealism with a deeply personal symbolism rooted in music, poetry, and Welsh cultural heritage. He is particularly renowned for his series inspired by Dylan Thomas's poem 'Do Not Go Gentle into That Good Night' and his recurring motifs of musical instruments, flowers, and the female form. Regarded as one of the most significant British artists of the mid-twentieth century, Richards represented Britain at the Venice Biennale in 1962 and his work is held in major public collections including Tate and the National Museum Wales.
