Victor Petit

Architecture Pittoresque ou Monuments des XVeme. Et XVIeme. Siecles: Chateaux de France des XV et XVI Siecles: Pl. 48, Porte Du Château de Fresnay-Le-Puceux (Calvados)

1860

This lithograph documents the ornate gateway of Château de Fresnay le Puceux in Calvados, France, exemplifying the architectural grandeur of 15th and 16th century French châteaux. Victor Petit's print, created using lithography with tint stone, was part of an ambitious portfolio of 100 similar works intended to preserve and celebrate medieval and Renaissance French architectural heritage. The tinted stone technique allowed Petit to render the structure's volumetric forms and decorative details with subtle tonal variations characteristic of the picturesque architectural documentation popular in 19th century France.
