The Nazis (Set B with 41 works)
1999
A monumental grid of glossy photographic portraits presents Hollywood actors costumed as Nazi officers, drawn from decades of cinema history. Uklański's work provocatively interrogates the seductive aesthetics of evil, exposing how popular film culture has repeatedly glamorized and aestheticized the iconography of the Third Reich. The cumulative effect of so many handsome, heroic-looking faces in uniform forces an uncomfortable confrontation with the complicity of cinema in mythologizing fascism.
