Patrick Hughes
Ins and Outs
"Ins and Outs" by Patrick Hughes is a striking example of the British artist's signature "reverspective" technique, in which a three-dimensional constructed surface of protruding and receding geometric forms creates a disorienting optical illusion when viewed in motion. Rendered in oil on board construction, the work plays with the viewer's perception, as the painted elements appear to move and shift in the opposite direction to the observer. The result is a mesmerizing interplay between depth and flatness, challenging our understanding of space and perspective.
