Mimmo Rotella
Constantin Tacou emigrated from Romania to France in 1948. There, he became an important and charismatic figure in Bohemian post-war Paris where he worked as the editor of the Cahiers de L'Herne. Tacou not only published Rotella’s biography, Une Vie D’artiste, but he was also an avid collector with an acutely discerning eye, acquiring some outstanding works by Fontana, Calder, Christo, Klein, Tinguely and Rotella.
This vibrant décollage on canvas exemplifies Rotella's signature technique of tearing and layering weathered posters to create a dynamic composition rich in texture and fragmented imagery. The work reflects the artist's pioneering role in post-war European avant-garde movements, transforming the ephemeral visual language of urban street culture into high art. As part of the distinguished collection of Constantin Tacou — a central figure in Bohemian post-war Paris and publisher of Rotella's own biography — this piece carries both artistic and deeply personal historical significance.
