Concetto spaziale, Attese
1965
A quintessential example of Fontana's celebrated 'Attese' (Awaiting) series, this work features five precise slashes cut through a white canvas, each tapering to fine points at top and bottom. The cuts appear effortless yet deliberate, creating a dialogue between the painted surface and the void beyond — a defining gesture of Spatialism. Held in the permanent collection of the Solomon R. Guggenheim Museum, this 1965 canvas represents the apex of Fontana's radical challenge to the picture plane. The work was gifted by the Fondazione Lucio Fontana in 1988, cementing its institutional provenance and scholarly significance.
