Lime Loop Painting No. 1
A luminous field of lime green oil paint is applied in sweeping, gestural strokes across the reflective surface of polished stainless steel, creating a dynamic interplay between the painterly mark and the mirror-like ground beneath it. Presented in two parts, the work explores the tension between materiality and perception, as the steel's reflective quality causes the surrounding environment to merge with the painted surface. Martin's signature process of dragging thick pigment across the support leaves a textured, looping trail that simultaneously asserts the physicality of the medium while appearing to dissolve into light.
