Monolito Parabólico Phytoplankton (Cuenca Hidrográfica del Bosque Tropical de El Yunque, Luquillo, Puerto Rico)
2025
A towering parabolic monolith sculpture by Puerto Rican artist Gisela Colón (b. 1966), measuring nearly 98½ inches tall with a highly polished, luminous surface rendered in vibrant swirling greens and teals. The work invokes the complex river system and phytoplankton-rich waters of El Yunque National Rainforest in Luquillo, Puerto Rico, an essential source of fresh water and biodiversity in the Caribbean. Colón's signature aesthetic draws on the energies and organic patterns of the natural world, rooted in her childhood experiences of Puerto Rico. This large-scale, floor-standing sculpture is courtesy of the artist and was exhibited at the Bruce Museum as part of 'Gisela Colón: Radiant Earth.'
