African-American Flag
Created by David Hammons, *African-American Flag* reimagines the iconic American flag by replacing its traditional red, white, and blue with the Pan-African colors of red, black, and green. The work draws on the symbolism of the Black Liberation flag designed by Marcus Garvey, asserting a distinct cultural and political identity within and alongside American national identity. Through this bold visual substitution, Hammons challenges conventional notions of belonging, citizenship, and representation.
