Guggenheim Tondo
1992
Dan Flavin's Guggenheim Tondo is a double sided mezzotint featuring purple ink on one side and green on the other, printed on handmade paper. The work is distinctive in its presentation, with the full sheet rolled and fastened with a single stitch, creating an unusual sculptural quality for a print. This innovative binding method transforms the traditional flat print into an object with dimensional presence. Created in 1992, the circular composition suggests an architectural or astronomical reference. The mezzotint technique allows for subtle tonal gradations in both color variations.
