Ali Banisadr's diptych *It Happened and It Never Did* is a swirling, densely layered composition rendered in oil on linen, where cascading figures, forms, and fragments seem to emerge from and dissolve back into a churning atmospheric field of color. Drawing on the artist's memories of growing up during the Iran-Iraq War, the work pulsates with a sense of simultaneous presence and absence, as if capturing the contradictory nature of traumatic memory itself.
