Wafaa Bilal is a provocative new media and performance artist known for immersive, interactive works that explore geopolitical conflict, trauma, and the human cost of war. His landmark project 'Domestic Tension' (2007) confined him to a Chicago gallery for a month where internet users could remotely fire a paintball gun at him, generating global attention and critiquing the detached nature of drone warfare. He later underwent a surgical procedure to have a camera implanted in the back of his head for '3rdi' (2010), a year-long piece commissioned by the Mathaf Arab Museum of Modern Art, further cementing his reputation as an artist who uses his own body as a site of political inquiry.
