Tony Cragg (often referenced as 'Tony Craig') is one of Britain's most celebrated and internationally recognized sculptors, born in Liverpool in 1949. He studied at the Royal Academy of Arts in London and later moved to Düsseldorf, Germany, where he has been based for much of his career and where he taught at the Kunstakademie Düsseldorf, eventually serving as its rector. Cragg emerged as a central figure in the British New Sculpture movement of the late 1970s and 1980s, a generation that reinvigorated three-dimensional art with conceptual rigor and material experimentation, alongside peers such as Richard Deacon, Anish Kapoor, and Bill Woodrow.
