Tim Noble is a British contemporary artist best known for his collaborative partnership with Sue Webster, together forming one of the most distinctive duos in British art since the 1990s. Noble studied at Nottingham Trent University before moving to London, where he and Webster began their celebrated partnership. Their work is closely associated with the Young British Artists (YBA) movement and shares a provocative, darkly humorous sensibility with peers such as Damien Hirst and Tracey Emin. Noble and Webster rose to international prominence with their extraordinary shadow sculptures, in which seemingly chaotic assemblages of rubbish, taxidermied animals, and detritus are illuminated by a single light source to cast precise, recognizable silhouettes, often self-portraits of the artists themselves, onto a wall behind them.
