Paul Hoenich (1915–2005) was an Israeli artist and inventor born in Germany who became renowned for his pioneering work in kinetic and light art. Emigrating to what would become the State of Israel in the 1930s, Hoenich spent decades developing a unique artistic practice centered on the manipulation of sunlight as a primary medium. He is best known for inventing the 'sun paintings' or 'heliographic' works, in which he used mirrors, prisms, and reflective surfaces to project and transform natural sunlight into vivid, ephemeral compositions. His work placed him at a distinctive intersection of scientific inquiry and artistic expression, earning him a reputation as a true innovator in kinetic art.
