Mela Muter, born Maria Melania Mutermilch, was the first professional Jewish painter in Poland who spent most of her life in France after relocating to Paris in 1901. Known for her vivid hues and strong brushstrokes, she gained swift recognition in the Parisian art scene and received French citizenship in 1927. She continued working in Paris until her death in 1967, having weathered the Nazi occupation by fleeing to Avignon during World War II.
