Maya Stovall

Maya Stovall is a Detroit-based interdisciplinary artist best known for her ongoing video and performance series 'Liquor Store Theatre,' in which she performs contemporary dance outside liquor stores in Detroit's neighborhoods, engaging with passersby and exploring themes of urban life, race, labor, and community. Her work blurs the boundaries between fine art and everyday social interaction, using the vernacular spaces of the city as both stage and subject. Stovall has exhibited at venues including the Whitney Museum of American Art, the Museum of Contemporary Art Detroit, and has been featured in numerous publications examining her distinctive approach to socially engaged performance art.
