Marcus Harvey is a British painter known for his provocative and technically ambitious works that blend figuration, abstraction, and appropriation. He gained international notoriety as a member of the Young British Artists (YBAs) and is perhaps best known for his controversial 1995 painting 'Myra,' a large-scale portrait of Moors murderer Myra Hindley constructed from children's handprints, which caused significant public outcry when exhibited in the 'Sensation' exhibition at the Royal Academy. Harvey continues to explore themes of popular culture, desire, and the loaded history of painting through bold, often sexually charged imagery.
