Jean Lurçat

Jean Lurçat (1892–1966) was a French artist best known for revitalizing the ancient art of tapestry weaving in the 20th century, most notably through his monumental work 'Le Chant du Monde' at the Musée Jean Lurçat in Angers. Trained as a painter and influenced by Cubism and Surrealism, he transformed tapestry into a major modern art form by simplifying color palettes and cartoon techniques. His works are highly sought after at auction, spanning tapestries, ceramics, paintings, and lithographs.
