James Seawright

James Seawright is an American artist and pioneer of electronic and kinetic sculpture, known for creating interactive works that respond to sound, light, and environmental stimuli. His landmark pieces such as 'Searcher' (1966) and 'House Plants' (1983) integrate sensors, motors, and electronic systems to produce dynamic, responsive environments that blur the boundary between art and technology. Seawright was a professor at Princeton University for decades, where he helped establish electronic arts as a legitimate discipline, and his work has been exhibited at the Museum of Modern Art and the Whitney Museum of American Art.
