Hans Arp was a pioneering Franco-German sculptor, painter, and poet who co-founded the Dada movement in Zurich in 1916 alongside Hugo Ball and Emmy Hennings, later becoming a central figure in Surrealism and Concrete Art. His signature biomorphic reliefs and sculptures, such as the 'Constellation' series and 'Human Concretion' (1935), explored organic abstraction through smooth, undulating forms that evoked growth, transformation, and the natural world. Arp exhibited widely across Europe and America, contributed to landmark publications, and his work is held in major collections including MoMA, the Tate, and the Fondation Arp in Clamart, France, cementing his legacy as one of the twentieth century's most inventive abstract artists.
