Almir Mavignier was a pioneering Brazilian concrete and kinetic artist who became one of the most important figures in the international Concrete Art and Op Art movements. After studying in Brazil under Ivan Serpa at the Museum of Modern Art in Rio de Janeiro, he moved to Germany in 1953 and studied at the Hochschule für Gestaltung in Ulm, where he developed his signature visual language of additive and concentric dot compositions that create mesmerizing optical effects. His work has been exhibited at major institutions including documenta in Kassel, the Venice Biennale, and the São Paulo Biennial, and he is also celebrated for his innovative poster designs that extended his visual research into graphic communication.
