Alia Farid is a multidisciplinary artist working across video, sculpture, ceramics, and installation, whose practice examines the intersections of colonial history, modernist architecture, labor, and leisure across the Global South, particularly the Gulf region and the Caribbean. Her video works, such as 'In Passing' (2018), explore shared cultural and economic histories between Kuwait and Puerto Rico, while her ceramic and textile works draw on indigenous craft traditions to interrogate transnational exchange and displacement. Farid has exhibited widely at institutions including the Sharjah Biennial, dOCUMENTA 14, the Whitney Biennial, and the Museum of Modern Art, establishing her as a significant voice in contemporary conceptual and postcolonial discourse.
